: I just returned from a long drive in the rain in my 92' 525I. I noticed that the windshield wipers at certain moments were quiet when going back and forth, but most of the time they were making a harsh, rubbing sound that was loud and unpleasant. Is this noise common in these cars? (I hope not), it was my first time driving this car in the rain. Thank you for your comments!

Wash the wiper blades well, and dry them.

Squeeze a puff of graphite powder into a small rag, and rub the graphite up and down the length of the wiper blade to coat it.

I got this from a BMW technician.

Paul.
