Brakes are surprisingly easy to do. I changed front pads on my 535i last May. It look under an hour, and I had never ever changed any brake component on any car prior to that.

If you have the factory wheels on the car, I highly recommend getting PBR deluxe brake pads. They have about the same stopping power as stock pads, but throw off FAR less dust than stock pads. I'm going to change my rear pads to PBR's next month even though the current pads are not nearly worn out.

: Light came on yesterday, 'Brake Lining' and my BMW guys tell me that the pads are 134.00 front and 143.00 back, labor included.{Independent BMW Specialist} BUT, if rotors need to be replaced, 300.00 something for front and about the same for back... Rotors were replaced in April of 98.
: IS this normal? And, an I getting hosed on prices?
: Aftermarket parts?
: Any help would be greatly appreciated...
