To replace with new rotors requires taking the caliper mounts off, expect about 100+ lbs/torque to get this off. HINT AIR IMPACT/ratchet!!. I finally dug out my trust ole 24 inch torque wrench set it at 150lbs and prayed it came off before that! it worked with my brother putting about 100lbs of down pressure on the caliper mount and apply a little bit more in upwards force. The old worn rotors will come off and go back on without doing this, new ones require this. ugh.

Also. Brake light warning indicator on front left, or right rear, $8 bux a piece, must be replaced if the lining light comes on. Its designed to self-destruct most of the time, bmw dealer part.

Of course you have a nice big fat c-clamp to press the brake caliper back in right? If not, go buy one.

If all else fails, find a local quickie-break place, give them the parts and negotiate a fee, say $50 to install all the brand new parts, it would take someone with a lift and hydrualic tools maybe 10 minutes per wheel to do them if they are really careful.

Last hint: turn new rotors. they get beat around in shipping and i have seen them slightly warped out of the box.. I used some cheapo bradi rotors on mine, didn't turn them, and this time thank god all is well.

Break job cost:
2 Rotors $80 after tax (couldnt wait for mail order)
Front pads $34.99
lots of dirt.
a few cigarettes.
hurt muscles, back, nuckles.

Would i have paid $50-75 to have it done , hell yes, now that i think about it. But after having the calipers off and full or dirt already, theres no going back..

: if you were to buy the parts and do it yourself the pads would run about 35-45 for front and about same for rear. I think I paid around 60 each for rotors.
: A good shop has to make money both off of parts and labor to cover overhead etc. this is a cake job with a lot of built in profit. If you are not doing it yourself shop around at good reputable shops. If you don't have warped rotrs then you may get by without replacing them But if you are questioning it go ahead and get some new. it will give you better service then having them turned down in most cases.

: good luck
