I bought an 89 525 a couple of years ago with no records or history. Bought it off a discount lot on a whim. I've had no major trouble (except A/C) with it to date. Knock, Knock. Like most other cars, BMW's do require regular maintenance. Parts can be slightly more expensive, but labor rates are comparable to other shops. If you decide to buy, find a good independent shop to perform an in- depth inspection on all major systems. When I had my bimmer inspected, at the dealer, they did not check the A/C and it needed to be replaced $$ The car is an automatic and is a bit slow, but keeps up with traffic fine. There are no rattles or squeaks and the car rides solid and smooth. The car has 130K miles and seems ready for another 100k.
