: I want brighter headlights, but I don't want to pay $500 for a new rig? Do superwhite bulbs really make much difference? Basically, I'm ignorant on this and want to know what is the best band for your buck for brigher headlights? Thanks in advance

Ck out this link http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/

Michael, there's lots of good info in the link, disproving many myths, but still i tried a set of the superwhites. They were supposed to be a pure white/non-blue/non-rainbow type, but... they sucked. No brighter, and a lot of rainbow/halo effect over the road, light almost appeared green at some angles! I returned them the next day for full refund. Instead i bought two new Sylvania 9006 halogen bulbs (55w), cleaned the inside of the lens (i've got ellipsoids like your car) with a length of tubing and a wad of cloth taped to the end, and wa-lah, brighter low beams. I don't know if it was the cleaning of the lens, or that the newer sylvania bulbs are better, but the light is definitely improved. Regarding the lens cleaning, someone posted a few months ago about removing the headlight assemblies to clean them, but mine have those toilet stall screws that don't back out. Make sure they're clean and aligned correctly, and i think you will notice the improvement. I agree with you, $500 is a bit steep for me to justify to the wife, she'd just tell me to slow down ;^)
