Thanks for the kind(?) words Maeg.
I have been a car owner for almost 40 years and have NEVER had a wear item fail or break on me. Then again, I am EXTREMELY anal about things mechanical (I even wax my snow blower and lawn mower!). My comment was meant as a friendly jest toward the owner in defence of our cars! For good order's sake, no comment of mine on this board is meant personally (unless someone addresses ME insultingly). Did you mean in your post that you had the belt replaced just before it broke or that you checked it? If it had not been replaced, my maxim has always been to change your belt(s) at the recommended mileage or 3 years, whichever comes first. They are very easy to do on the M50 and it is cheap insurance.
