1.The refrigerant could have leaked out.The compressor will not run if the refrigerant pressure is below min level.Could be a leak somewhere in the system ie evaporator/sondenser/receiver drier/lines/compressor.Try topping up the gas first.If it works,then a slow leak in the system has developed.$$$$$
2.Electrical.Check the a/c switch and the rotary blower knob.The wire to the compressor that send the signal for clutch engagement could be damaged.

: When I switch on my aircon there is no click from the compressor clutch indicating that the aircon is not working properly. Has anybody any ideas?
