Sounds like the in-famous lamp control module. Check the archives. This is a well known problem with a simple soldering iron fix.

: First, I'd like to thank you guys for the past help. I have one other annoying problem. Has anyone experienced a problem with a 1991 525i where the lights (interior and exterior) flicker when the car is running? I'm not sure if it's the alternator or the voltage regulator and I don't really want to replace both if I don't have to. Any clue? Thanks, Joe..
