The overflow tank, located on the left side of the radiator of my 95 525i, leaked and caused the coolant alarm to come on. I have seen references to this problem elsewhere. The dealer corrected the alarm problem twice, but I suspect all they did was to clean off the coolant that had collected on the coolant level detector which is below the overflow tank. Once the car was out of warranty they pointed out the leak and replaced the radiator. After some argument, I did get them to pick up half the cost.
: : I've got a '92 525 that has a leaking radiator. It appears to be leaking from the lower fin area. It seems rather soon to need to replace a radiator. Has anyone else had to do so? The car appears to have been serviced by a local dealer (I've owned the car for about 1 year)and the coolant looked ok when I purchased the car. After I bought it, I replaced the coolant with Prestone Extended Life and a few months later had to replace the water pump. Again I replaced the coolant with Prestone Extended Life. Does my choice of coolant have anything to do with the radiator failure?
: the radiators and water pumps are known junk.
: they go bad all the time. they did fix the water pump problem though, the impellor is now made out of metal rather than plastic which craks and them breaks off
