Trip computer reads "PPPP" (archive)

The battery in my '95 540i went dead so I replaced it, but when I went to start the car up the trip computer does not work and it reads "PPPP". The radio also went blank and does not work even after plugging in the code. The car starts and drives perfectly.

I have disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and then reconected it again in hopes that this would clear the problem, but no luck.

Any ideas ?
