Izzy.
In KL,we can send our wheels to the shop for polishing, which means removing the tires and putting the whole rim onto a spinning contraption and actually do a lathe job on the outer surface to give it the shiny metal alloy look as in Derek's picture.I have seen many vehicle on the road where this is done with a black center hub and it looks awesome and mean.Hmmm,I might give it a try myself.

: : : On the unofficial bmw web page, I saw some posts where they cleaned, sanded(340 grit)and sprayed wurth silver on the wheels followed by a clear. They reported like new results. Although my wheels are in good shape there are places toward the center of the rim where it looks as though they aren't painted all the way or over the years the brake dust has eaten the paint away revealing touches of the white primer and a rough surface area. You don't notice it unless you are cleaning the wheels, basketweaves, it's a daily job. So now my intrest is peaked and curious to know if the results are "like new". Any tips or suggestions?

: : On my 85 535i I had MSW basketweaves. They had a black painted center and a polished outer rim, see picture. The great thing about these wheels was the balck center, it wouldn't show brake dust as easy. I have given thought to do in the same treatment to my current BMW basketweave wheels. The only real major issue is the polishing of the outer rim, could be a very time consuming event. All the while the wheels are out of commision. Might worth an email to the Wheel Collision shop for detail on wheel refinshing.
