In Reply to: 2 Stupid Questions: Where to get a key & CD plyr? posted by CLGersh on March 12, 2000 at 12:10:45:
: It's Sunday so I cannot call the dealer, but figured I'd pose the question here:
: I am buying a 95 540i. I take delivery tomorrow (Monday) I am very excited, but already know that it requires two things to make it perfect.
: 1) It currently does not have a CD player at all. According to one of the sites I was checking, all 540s are prewired for a changer. Is this true? Which changers should/can I buy? I really don't need anything too fancy, it's just that I haven't purchased a cassette tape since 93! Any advice is appreciated. My main goal is to get an economical player that will install seamlessly (i.e. No remotes, etc)
: 2) Ok, this is really lame, but the car is perfect, no dings, scratches, etc...but the key is gross. It looks like the previous owner kept it in his pocket with mashed bananas and rocks! The feature buttons on the key work, but I'd like a new, clean key for my "new" car. Am I correct in assuming that my local BMW dealer can order me a new key? Am I going to be floored with the cost?
: Anyway, I look forward to participating in this forum.
The stereo is either made by Pioneer or Alpine. Push the mode button and the prog button at the same time, and either ALP or PIO will display. The car is prewired, so just plug and play. You can go to your local retailers after you know who makes it and look at their selection. If you want the BMW name on the slide plate Pacific BMW in Glendale CA has the cheapest prices via mail order. I purchased there after checking prices everywhere.
