Replacing 4 wire 02 sensor (archive)

I replaced my old 02 sensor the other day by splicing the wires together fron the new sensor to the OEM connector. Wheb doing it, I was able to soilder all the wire except the Gray one. It wouldn't take the soilder. Does any one know why? Is it stainless steel? It was also more difficult to cut.
