I had a similar problem a few weeks ago when I was on a long trip. When i cancelled the cruise to go through a town the car was still travelling quite fast and when i slipped the trans into neutral the engine was doing 300rpm.So I popped the bonnet open and had a check under while the engine was reving and noticed the throttle cable had jumped out of its cable holder on the intake manifold and could'nt return properly hence the stuck cable was actually holding the throttle open.this is just a suggestion of what happened to me and might not be the same cause as yours..if it isnt the fuse for the cruise control as mentioned by other peole seems to be the immediate quick fix for your problem
