FWIW. If you want to pass and you think you need to go to third gear, rather than move the selector(possibly into 2nd) or putting the throttle to the floor (not real smooth) just reach down and switch to manual. When you complete your pass or want to upshift, select the economy mode. Much easier than shifting the other ways.

: hello I have an 89 535i automatic and I was wondering how do you put the transmission in the sport shift mode "S" that makes the car go faster? Do you flip the switch to "M" and put it in "3" or do you just drive with the shifter in the "3" position? Thank you
