thank you so much for your suggestions.

i've been already browsing crutchfield and read some of the reviews/faqs they have there, but apparently they seem to deal mostly with recent spec car stereos. they have "adapters" but their coverage leaves BMW out.. maybe BMW stereos don't need converters.

i'll keep looking.
