In my 525 Auto I had to remove the whole trim piece that the shift indicator is a part of. The black plastic is the underpart that the wood trim goes on. Remove the auto manual shift switch the shifter knob then you can remove the trim piece and change the light. It may be a LED that will need to be soldered in.

: Does anyone know how to change the console backlight for the shift indicator on an automatic. I cant see what gear I am in when it is dark. Do you pry up the black panel or what? Thanks in advance.
