Jose,

I have heard people on the board complain about the fan housing trim plastic cracking or warping on their E34's but the one on my '89 535i (117k) is quite sturdy and shows no signs of wear or brittleness. I have removed it three times now while working on the car and it's never been a problem. The problem part must be something they switched to after '89? Likewise, the other plastic in my engine compartment seems to be good quality and sturdy. Same goes for my wife's '88 325. Mabye on later models they tried to cut costs by going to another plastic supplier.
