: Replaced the muffler on a 92 525 m50 engine, but did not replace the resonator. The replacement muffler was a ANSA. Car still seems to be louder than it should be but not as loud as it was with the old muffler. Does the resonator have any effect on how loud the car is at idle or at throttle. Anybody have any experiences let me know.

Replaced the (very loud and worn out) stock muffler on my wife's 325 with a ANSA. The ANSA is supposed to be a little louder than a BMW OE but not by much. The resonator is there to block noise as well, so mabye thats your problem. Can you get underneath the car and listen to each part as the car is revved? Hope this helps.
