thanks for your answer first, i hope the repair is not going to cost me much but someone has already pouring me with cold water. back to your question, i seldom have to drive my car above 2500 rpm, i can cruise at 100 km/h (~55 mph) at 2000 rpm on highway, and on uphill, the engine will be about 2500 rpm at 50 km/h.

: I changed the auto fluid in my 535i the other day and replaced the pan seal at the same time to stop some oil leak...when i still hand a small leak still i got under the car and investigated a bit further and found the selector shaft seal is the culprit. My new seal should be here in a day or so so I will let you know how I get on with regards to replacing it.The seal cost $10.80 Aussie !
: By the way at 2000 rpm what speed are you doing???
: regards Tim
