oil leak (archive)

I hope somebody can give some info about the oil leak I just recently noticed in my 95' 525I. Since I'm not mechanically savy at all I can't even tell you the exact name of the part where the leak seems to come from. It appears it is coming from a canister looking metal piece with a bolt on top that is located on the top left front side of the engine just behind the radiator hose. The leak appears substantial since it creates a puddle in my garage.Need help as to what this part is and how serious and what are the anticpated costs. I really would appreciate some help, so I am not taken advantaged of when I take it to my local garage. Mel
