: I hope somebody can give some info about the oil leak I just recently noticed in my 95' 525I. Since I'm not mechanically savy at all I can't even tell you the exact name of the part where the leak seems to come from. It appears it is coming from a canister looking metal piece with a bolt on top that is located on the top left front side of the engine just behind the radiator hose. The leak appears substantial since it creates a puddle in my garage.Need help as to what this part is and how serious and what are the anticpated costs. I really would appreciate some help, so I am not taken advantaged of when I take it to my local garage. Mel

Did you changing oil latetly ?
That round thing is the oil filter housing.
here we go:
* open it by unscrew the bolt and withdraw it out,
take the cap off and you will see the big o ring
seating in the groove,if you don't see it that
mean whoever do the oil changes for you forget
to replace it in there (come back and kick his
ass).
* if you see it put everything back and try to
tight it down again, also look at the bolt at the
end of it should have another small o ring too
you may have to buy a new oil filter and they
come with all the seal, o ring, washer for the
oil changes jobs and replace the whole thing if
you needed.(about 8 dollars)
good luck and keep the road cleaner.
