New 525 owner, idle question (archive)

I just bought an '89 525i and I love it. Not the fastest car I've ever owned, but that's not the purpose of this car in my fleet. The only problem I've found to date is that the car starts a little harder than it should, you have to give it some gas, more than you should have to. The idle is also a little rough, doesn't vary much in terms of RPM, just seems like it should be smoother. Seems more like fuel than spark. My only clue is a shopping list from the previous owner found under the passenger, it said "crankshaft position sensor" which would explain quite a bit. The engine was replaced last september after a timing belt failure (M20- rats !!!). There was also a new fuel filter in the glove box. Other than that the car is great, with the exception of a few minor cosmetics: radio display dim to non-existent, cool not cold A/C (we'll see soon) and a few extra orange spots on the trip computer.

Maybe someday this car will get a supercharger and a 5-speed, but for right now, I'm enjoying the ride.

Any help on any of this appreciated.
