1.Remove the long black trim piece from the bumper by prying it with a thin blade flat head screwdriver(an electrical test pen will do nicely)
2.With the trim piece removed,you will now see four 17mm nut securing the bumper,two on each extreme ends..Remove those and the whole bumper is ready to be pulled out.But before doing so,remove the plastic mud guard cover inside the rear wheel wells as it will get in the way if you try to pull the bumper out.

: Hey everybody. I have a 90 535i and the rear bumper on one side is loose. Body shop says the bracket is broken. I purchased it already but don't know how to install it. It seems like the whole rear bumber needs to come off but I have never done that. If anybody knows how to take off the rear bumper to install a new bracket. I would greatly appreciate it!!
