: Steve:
: My 89 525i is hard to start too. The car usually cranks for at least 5 seconds before it fires. A boss had an 89 325 that did the same thing. My car is well maintained with new filters, plugs, high-grade gas, etc. I even run a bottle of injector cleaner through it every couple of months. I've been told this engine, M20, has a history of this at higher mileage.
: More of a nusiance(sp) than anything else, except for the extra wear and tear on the starter. Also a problem in the severe cold when the battery can't spin as long as needed to fire.

: Good Luck

My '98 525i has 182,000 miles and starts up quickly every time. Your idle air valve may be dirty. take it off and clean it with brake kleen and air pressure.
