: I had this problem when I purchased my 525 almost a year ago. I replaced the main relay and the fuel pump relay and the problem went away. Recently, my idle speed stayed at around 550 RPM. I looked at everything with no results. I lost my gas cap last week, so purchased a new one from the dealer. After about 50 miles, suddenly my car idles where it should and has for a week now. Did the new gas cap fix that? Seems that it did, I need to look into that further. Also you may need to replace the fuel filter. Use the BMW filter as the aftermarket filters are about 2 inches shorter.

Good luck
