: I am looking to purchase a 1990 535i 5 speed with 107k miles. It's a one owner car and was well maintained. It runs good however it appears that it needs a paint job soon. He is asking $11500 and i offered him $9500. His bottom line price is $10000. What would be a fair price?
www.nada.com is your friend. :)
They will give you low average and high retail prices for the year make and model of car you specify. Its not exactly the word of God or anything, but its a good ball park estimate whenever you are looking at a car. And no, they aren't paying me to say this. ;) It sometimes helps to be armed with a printout from the site or the blue book itself when haggling. NADA is usually favorable to the buyer, and kelly blue book (www.kbb.com) is usually favorable to the seller or dealer. (They say statistics can be bent to say anything you want....)
I hope that helps you at least get a good idea.
