They are referring to the 535 and possibly the later 525 models. The M20 is still a slightly messy affair. It is easier to do this on ramps. I wrap aluminum foil over the engine mount and use an old shower curtain under the car as well as a well placed (most of the time) drain pan. Remove the filter and wipe clean (I find that the filter comes out easier from the bottom), replace the filter, tighten, wipe down. When your done unwrap the engine mount and wipe it off put the oil plug back in and torque. Wipe off any splatter from the engine and surrounding parts. Now grap the ends od the shower curtain and gently pull all the stuff from under the car. Dispose of the oil (properly of course), wad up the shower curtain and throw it all away. You can also by rolls of plastic drop cloth ate Lowes or Home depot if you don't have a ready supply of shower curtains (I have two teenagers who cause a constant resupplying of curtains. We have the old fashioned spin on/off filters, not the canisters and they are particularly nasty to get at on the e34.

Good Luck

Michael
