: Alright, I guess it's my turn to have something break. :(

: Driving to class tonight my odometer blank out and the information window to the right of it wouldn't produce any words. A few minutes later it all kicked on (every light in those two plastic windows - odometer and information windows) and immediately went off after about 2 seconds. After all this fun, my speedometer went dead a few times and started to fluctuate between my actual MPH and zero, as if it were a tachometer. After staying dead for a few minutes, it kicked again and finally stayed working for the remainder of the trip (I'm on break at classes still). I never could get the odometer or other display back, but everything else seems fine (starting, OBC, radio, etc).

: Any ideas? Suggestions? Sounds expensive?

: Thanks guys. :)

I had the same problem with an 89 525i. From what I understand the problem is quite common and usually relates to cold solders on the circuit board behind the cluster. Before purchasing a new one, I removed the board and had a computer shop resolder the old board (all connections, no diagnosis) for $50. The cluster worked perfect and I have not had the problem since.
Good Luck
