If you have an M50. Don't know about the others. If you have a nice low drain pan, you won't need to jack the car. I don't need to even with the lower H&R sport springs. The oil filter is a canister type accessible from above.

: I am however wondering if changing the oil in a BMW is any more involved than on a 350 smallblock based chevy. There any special things to know about how to jack it up, procedure for getting it to drain, anything about the filers? I know you need a reset tool to make that annoying light go out if you don't take it to the dealer. I am writing this under the assumption that taking a BMW to a quickie lube is about as smart as taking it to those valet guys in Ferris Bueler's Day Off. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
: Also, should I be using synthetic? I've heard about many advantages to synthetic such as making older cars run a bit cooler and overheat less, but it does cost more and my dad seems to recall that it eats away something in certain cars.. said he saw an article but doesn't remember details. Can anyone confirm or rebuke this? If it is indeed worth the extra cost, you can be sure it'll be in my engine, just like the premium gas.
