:California is a little more complicated. We have state sales tax depending on where you live (8.25% for me), then we have license and registration fees based on the value of the car (couple of thousand $ for these cars), then we have luxury tax and gas guzzler tax. So expect to pay about 20% of the car's value to get it out the door. These are rough estimates as I am not looking directly at my paper work.

California has also closed loop holes for those of us who buy cars out of state and bring them in. Some government worker learned about arbitrage or at least the "big mac" purchase price parity model. Jim
