You don't have to remove the fan. You just work the belt over the fan blades - I did and it worked just fine. It took me about an hour to change mine. One important item to note - you will need to loosen the belt tensioners to remove the belt. When you reinstall the belts, make sure that the tensioners are at full tension befor tightening the holdown bolt. This ensures the correct amount of belt tension. I did not do this when I first changed my belts and got some squeeling from them. I had to retighten the tensioners.
