Bentley states that the top bolt on the canister should be opened to release the air.

My sequence is to put the lid on the canister, tighten the bolt just a little (to keep oil from leaking out) and start engine. I turn it off right away and open the bolt; often you can hear the hiss of air escaping. Torque it down right away to the spec. (I forget the number, something like 24 lb-ft).

Start engine to check the light. I have never had to bleed twice, once is enough.
