: My E34 '91 520i (110 000) had the shimmies at 55 - 65 mph. I have replaced the thrust arm bushes. The fault has now changed! I used to get the shimmy at the speeds above. Above 65mph it virtually dissappeared. It now starts at around 55 mph and gets progressively worse the faster I go with me chickening out at around 85 mph. I have swapped the back tyres to the front and vice-versa which actually made it worse. There are no clunking noises and the brakes feel fine with no increased wobble when braking hard at any speed. Should I try an alignment check? I don't want to fork out hard cash for an alignment if I might need to change ball joints etc. The tyres look OK with no signs of mis-alignment. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I don't see any mention of on-the-car wheel balancing or or out-of round checking. Alignment usually has nothing to do with any vibration problem.
