If you are a DIY'er, take one look under the hood of each car and I think the choice will become obvious.

IMHO the E34 was not designed for a V8 and when one was shoehorned in, a bunch of things had to be moved around, resulting in that cluttered, hard-to-get-at-things look.

If you are willing to deal with the complexity of a V8, why not hold out for a 540 as the price difference is reasonable. Now there's an upgrade!
