Thanks for the rapid and helpful response!

I was able to remove the inner lining of the sunroof and apply a little upward force while pressing the switch. This closed it up. After that, I opened and closed the sunroof a couple of times properly, and it worked ok. Then it made some of the original popping and squealing noises that it made before and stopped at the same point as before (just before the sunroof goes up to be flush with the roof). I put the cover back on and ran the sunroof completely closed. I guess I will look at it more closely in the daylight tomorrow afternoon. What should I look for other than the obvious signs of mistracking and binding? At least I got it to close tonight.
