The lid (i.e. the glovebox) is attached at the foremost lower edge by two wisegrip-like clips that sandwich the lid and hold on a steel rod. On closer inspection you will notice that these clips can be moved forwards and backwards on the lid. I used this feature to align the lid on my 535, and it cured the misalibnement AND the bad closing/stuck closed problem.

: Just bought a 535i. After reading its manual I put it back and closed the lid. Then it refused to be opened again. I tried to lock and unlock it using the master key, but it just didn't work. I noticed that though the lid is closed, it upper right corner is not in proper position.
