I've been driving my '92 525iT for just over a year and a half now (40K miles). Current mileage is 95K.

Problem areas:

Water pump - original uses plastic impeller. At 110K, yours probably has been replaced.

Sun roof - dual panel roof is expensive to fix. Make sure it operates smoothly.

Instrumentation - speedo & tach can be troublespots. Usually in cold weather. Components & solder connections fail to operate until warmed up.

Front end - thrust arms, bushings, etc are known wear items.

Electrical system - wiring to rear hatch often fails, affecting rear window opening & hatch locking as well as lights.

Inner door panels - panels separate with age, heat.

Other than that, I do enjoy driving an uncommon car. I get lots of comments from other folks about the style & utility. Car looks great with 235/45ZR Dunlop SP9000 tires on Breyton Softline wheels. Also installed Bilstein HD's. Handles better then original.

Overall mpg - 21.

Next week - surgery: SUPERCHARGER !

This should fix my major complaint about the car. Lack of "get up and go".

Also check maintenance history. Especially the auto transmission.

Good luck.
