Well, when your top swith, arrow pointing up, is all the way to the right, that opens your top vents, for the window, and the little vents next to the dash mounted speakers. For best defrosting, slide top lever all the way to the right, open, and bottom two all the way to the left, closed. Then turn your fan speed to 4, and adjust your temperature to all the way hot. This will attempt to defrost your side windows, although they don't work great. You may want to use the a/c in some situations, and this sometimes gets it if the heat doesn't work, just hit the a/c button, and should do the trick. On my car, the defroster vents usually only blow hot, but they get the compressed air with the a/c, don't remember if its still hot. Good luck.

: Hi-
: First time driving my 90 535i in heavy rain, I didn't find out how front/side window defrosting works. There is a rear window defrosting button, and below the fan speed control there is a "pictorgram" on front/rear/side window defrosting. What does that mean? And how does that work?

: Thanks for reading and for any suggestion.
