Thanks for the response. The car is new to me and I'm still getting it sorted out. In my experience, I've never had the brakes get this soft due old fluid. Like you, I usually bleed my brakes every 2 to 3 years, and never really notice much degradation/improvement -- I just do it to be on the safe side. I have had trouble before with motorcycles where air got trapped somewhere in the system. I suppose it's possible that I've got a big bubble in there somewhere -- we'll see.

I'm optimistic that a simple brake bleed will improve things dramatically. If not, then I'll be force to check the linkage adjustment, pad compounds, etc.
