Yep. I am an auto-x novice, but I have done three 'CCA autocrosses so far with my '93 525i 5-sp. It's of course been a learning experience, but I've had times comparable to similarly prepared E30's and non M E36's at the last two. I don't want to admit what my times were the first time out ;-(
I must admit that I was pleasantly suprised how well the E34 does. I "graduated" from 10 years as an E30 driver, and it was tough getting used to the E34 feel. However, through experiences like this I've discovered that it is the feel, not the actual capability, that seems most compromised by the weight. A lot of it may be due to the comparatively sloppy steering of our beloved E34's. Because of this "feel" difference from what I was used to, I was hesitant to even try the 5. Once I got out there I discovered that the car is really very capable, and a suprising amount of fun to toss around!
My only mods are H&R + Bilstein suspension, 17x8.5 wheels with 235/45-17 Dunlop SP9000's, a Jim C. chip, and UUC shortshifter.

Best regards,
Bob Hazelwood

: ...even with no mods other than some 17" Z-rated tires. I used to track my E34 before I bought the E30. It was always a blast to get a pass from some high-zoot sports car with my kid-hauler :)

: I am kind of surprised that auto-x's so well. I'd expect that the weight of the E34 would be a real drawback for auto-x. Anyone else auto-x their E34?

: Joel
