Larry,
On my 1991 535i, both front lights started playing up, and that was traced to the "regulator" (the relay in the right rear box under the hood). The thing is expensive, around 120$.
I don't know if it is the problem as yours does that on one side, but it could be. Maybe you can borrow such a relay from a friend to check the hypothesis.

i>: The passenger side low beam head light started acting up a week ago. It would go out and come back on. Now it's out! I can't see any wiring problem. No blown fuse, tryed changing the bulb and that didn't work. Is there any thing else I should try?
