: The type of fluid may be stamped on the reservoir cap. In general, it is not advised to mix fluids. My 1994 530ia uses Pentosin CHF-11S, a synthetic fluid available only from BMW (@ $25 per liter!!) and should definitely not be mixed with other fluids. Yours may use ordinary ATF - what does your owner's manual say?

Thanks for your reply! The owner's manual doesn't say anything but on the cap it says "ATF only". The Bentley manual says "Dexon(spell ?) II ATF".

So any idea? Do I need to replace the mixed steering fluid and stick to one brand? Or I just keep an eye on it until (if unluck) something is wrong?
