The 525 is certainly more than a family car, though it's not a sports car.
Re: reliability - remember that you see posts here about problems because people are trying to solve said problems... people don't post on the board with "hi everyone, my car's been running for 25000 miles without any problems, does anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it?" And have you not seen the "I've got 230k miles on mine, just did the usual maintenance and regular fluid changes plus 1 clutch in the last 80k miles..." posts? Why does this www.riceboypage.com criticism bother you so much?
I drove a '93 Toyota MR2 for 2 years. It had a blown head gasket and burned-out turbo bearings at 49k miles (right before the warranty expired!). The front brake rotors warped, the t-tops leaked, the stereo power button didn't work, there were several annoying rattles that took weeks to track down, and 1 of the "sub" woofer amps died. All this before 55k miles, when I sold it and bought my '89 535i with 104k miles. That car has had about $2000 worth of work (discounted from the asking price) and is running flawlessly. Not one problem, little or otherwise, now at 118k miles. The point? Anecdotal evidence is a largely meaningless... my Toyota had problems. Your Del Sol didn't (other than it's inherent problem of being a front-engine front-drive 2 seater with a micro-trunk!). My Bimmer is running perfectly, after being brought up to snuff (limited mileage so far). Can't draw too many conclusions from that, though we (as humans) sure love to!

: I did have A 1994 Honda Del sol, Although I like BMWs. I never had a problem with the Honda not a one, but as you know all of us have problems with our Bimmers all the time. As for speed the 525 is a family car if you want speed get a two seater thats what there built for.

: i>: : Why are you making fun of them? We do the same to are bimmers, 17" wheels, lowering, M5 emblems, exausts, tinted windows, and air filters. At least when they tune there cars. They actually will go faster unlike ours, unless of course your stupid enouph to waste your money on a supercharger or a new engine. After all If we stereotyped you, it would lead us to believe that you had a jacked up 4X4 BMW.
