Andrew,
I own a 1991 535ia and a 1995 M5 touring.
The 535 has sport suspension and 15 inch wheels.
I use 17 inch wheels in winter and 18 inch wheels in summer on the M5. The ride is not much different in terms of confort, but the steering feels much more precise with the larger rims.
Overall, I would say you lose a little confort every time you gain an inch in the rims, but you gain a lot in steering feedback and precision.
IMHO, The precision gains outweigh easily the (small) confort loss.
Regards, GeorgeK
: I have a 90 525i with stock 15" wheels.: I'm planning on replacing them with either the 18" TT style wheels or the 17" "turbine" 5 spoke M-style wheels.
: Does any know whether or not there is a big difference in terms of ride quality between 17" and 18" wheels with a stock suspension?
: Also, does anyone have a preference one way or the other?
: Thanks!
