driver door. torn metal (archive)

the inside of my driver door where the arm that holds the door
open is starting to rip apart. any suggestions besides replacing
the door. it looks like the metal is ripping. there has
not been any trauma (ie wind catching door) that I have
ever experienced. has anyone else had this problem. i am
thinking that this could be welded?
