Cecil: You need to replace the "door brake". It has frozen up (a common occurrence). You'll need to take the inside door panel off. Your Bentley E34 manual has a good description. I know because I just reviewed it in preparation for doing the same thing (my door brake is getting tired and makes clicking noises,not frozen yet).

When you are in there you can see how bad the damage is to the door and can decide how to fix. From now on, be sure to keep the brake well lubricated. Also,check the archives for "door check", "door stop", or "door brake". HTH.
