John, you may want to consider this as an alternative to pinching the gas lines, because if done incorrectly you could damage them. The reason that tons of gas shoots out of the lines is because of the presure that the fuel pump puts in them. I remove the fuel pump fuse ( located on the drivers side under the hood in the main fuse box by the fire wall, a chart in the box will tell you which fuse to remove. Then start the car for a few seconds and then turn off. You have now removed all the presure in the lines and the filter can be replaced without clamping off the lines. You will still have gas in the filter but it shold only be a pint or so.
