: Hi all

: I'm looking at buying my first beloved BMW. I've wanted one for as long as I can remember. (I'm in the UK).

: The car I've got my eye on is a 1991 (H) 525i SE in red. It has the M50 24 Valve engine, 5 speed manual box, 82k Miles and is almost mint condition cosmetically. It has 5 spoke alloys, Steel sunroof and twin tailpipes. Does this all make sense for this model?

: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

UK m50 engines had alloy blocks. Early alloy engines all had nikasil alloy. Ask local bimmer folk about this in the UK. In the USA most are familiar with alloy V-8s having problems. You say m50 and the colonials think cast iron block. But the UK jobs were alloy... and there was a big stink over there just as there was about the early alloy V-8s imported into the US
My M50 is cast Iron. I had Chew Bacca check it with a magnet.
