: I recently took my car in to have the water pump replaced. After the tech finished he called and said the motor was rinning hot and the fan clutch was bad, but the fan clutch was just replaced and so was the thermostat. He said you know the fan clutch was bad if you could stop it with your hand, so he did it. (could this possibly be a safety device?) Anyway he said it will only get hot while it's idling, but I have let it idle for ten minutes without noticing any differene in temp. But I have also let it idle for thirty sec. and it almost hits red. I think the tech is pulling something on me, but could it be a faulty thermostat. It doesn't always run hot like he said it would.

chech that the small hose from the radator to thr coolant tank is not plugged.
